First Responder Teams From Charleston and Mt. Pleasant, SC Conduct Full-Scale Evaluation of Technologies and Best Practices For Managing Critical Incidents

FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 2003-- Recent news coverage nationally and in the Charleston, SC area highlighted deployments of Xybernaut® (NASDAQ: XYBR - News) wearable computers for emergency preparedness and critical incident response. Under a Department of Justice (DOJ) program developed to identify and evaluate best practices and new technologies for emergency first responders.
The August 23 demonstration included 12 teams of law enforcement, SWAT and fire/rescue and EMS from the cities of Charleston, North Charleston and Mt. Pleasant as well as Charleston County officials. Xybernaut worked with several partners to coordinate full-scale exercises in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

The demonstration attracted considerable attention from homeland security officials as well as television and printed news outlets. News segments aired on the ABC, CBS and Fox affiliates on the day of and following the exercise.
