Sam, I think the issue is the very intermingled relationship between the head and the rest of the drive components. Where a weakness in one place can be overcome by modifications in other parts. So information flow among the design team has to be very extensive. I think if the teams are split into different companies each guarding its intellectual property, the effort suffers.
