If it had history, maybe- but it would need to be a lot of history. The pledge, for example, had history as NOT having God in it, then that was added, now which history do we take? Recent? Or the older history? I don't know. Me, I'd take the history without God in it. Others prefer their history with God. No matter how it gets decided somebody's ox gets gored- I personally think the OX ought to be something, rather than the absence of something. But then I see a big distinction between action, and inaction. Not all people do.
