That has been my experience with people all over this blue ball. I did not, however, say "materialistic"; I said "self interest."

People who seem to hold a higher value than the "self" may act to honour the self in different ways because they believe they will go to Heaven or escape Hell or something...but it is still self interest, isn't it? Some people have esoteric values related to some dogma they are bathed in...
