Ted, You're interpreting.......I don't hear him saying that.
In his context, America represents imperialism.
"the policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation especially by direct territorial acquisitions or by gaining indirect control over the political or economic life of other areas; broadly : the extension or imposition of power, authority, or influence"
<font color=green> According to Webster's, the above is the definition of imperialism. Given that definition, I think its hard to deny that to some degree we have behaved in an imperialistic manner.
Since WW II, we have worked diligently to increase of sphere of influence and power in the world. Have we taken over other countries or territories? Only in the distant past. Have we encouraged the installation of gov'ts favorable to us? Most definitely. Have we tried to influence other countries so that they see our way? Emphatically yes.
A recent example of our imperialistic influence is giving loans and aid to countries that support us in Iraq militarily or otherwise.<font color=black>
Anyone who opposes America is opposing imperialism, which makes them heroes in his mind. Yes, that includes Somali warlords, which is why he wished for a "million Mogadishus" in the first place.
<font color=green>I didn't see where he believes that. I think what he is saying is to let people find their own way instead of trying to load the dice. Thank God, we sought our independence over two hundred years ago. We were too far away for people to f*ukk with us.
I do agree with you that he puts things in a sensationalistic setting. I suspect he's an asshole that's trying to make a name for himself. I would have to read more of what he has written to know better.<font color=black>
What I hear him saying is let people have their own manifest destiny without our interference.
That's a very watered-down version of what he is saying. If that's all he's saying, I wouldn't mind, but he is taking far too many steps beyond that.
<font color=green>What are the steps that bother you?<font color=black>
