If you understood English, you would see that not only was he not thanking Bush bashers, he was not even thanking "anti-Gulf War protesters". He was thanking whatever small group of halfwits who showed him support while anti-Gulf War protests were in progress. For some reason "Republican" is often confused with conservatism. Being illiterate doesn't make a person conservative, it just makes them dumb.
