My recent ping history: Anecdotal evidence only.

About a week and a half ago my D-Link router was fried by a nearby lightning strike. I have two pc's hooked up to the router. I contacted D-Link and they put me through some machinations to confirm to their satisfaction that the router was indeed dead. They are in the process of sending me a replacement.

In the meantime I was sans router...so I hooked my main pc directly up to my cable modem (roadrunner)..the amount of pings that ZA started to log went through the roof, plus 500 a day. So..

I decided to buy a new router, since Amazon had a wireless Netgear on sale with a rebate for around $25 delivered. I got the Netgear router today and hooked it up (it took all of five minutes to connect both PC's). The router has been active for about 11 hours and I think I've had 2 ZA alerts since. Neither of them pings. (And I had the show alert pop up window box checked)

I realize that this does not constitute a valid double blind scientific study, but this Sherlock has come to the conclusion that a router will significantly reduce ping anxiety.

Go to Amazon.com and type in Netgear MR814 802.11b Wireless 4-Port Cable/DSL Router...I'd give you the direct URL but my account cookie would probably futz it up.
