watching Harry Truman

Never saw Truman in person, but do remember the campaign. In '48 most of the country was pre-TV, so movies were a "big deal". As I'm sure you recall, many movie theaters had their own organs (some on hydraulic lifts), and the on-screen entertainment consisted of not only the feature, but a cartoon and newsreel. During the newsreel portion when a particular candidate (Truman, Dewey or Thurmond) would appear, his supporters would loudly cheer.

Not that different from some of SI’s threads.
