Katt "Networking industry wags are beginning to refer to the Ascend-Cascade merger as a "Bay 2," in reference to the culture shock and subsequent turmoil caused by the Wellfleet-SynOptics merger that created Bay Networks in 1994. But rather than East Coast (Wellfleet) dominating West Coast (SynOptics) in the original, in the sequel it's reversed, with Ascend (Alameda, Calif.) playing the overbearing partner with Cascade (Westford, Mass.). El Gato hears that a few key people from Cascade have already left, with the merger barely 4 months old."
