Europeans do develop drugs, but a lot more are developed in the US. Also a large part of the cost of developing these drugs is paid for by the higher prices that Americans typically pay for patented prescription drugs. Many other countries legally restrict what the drug companies can charge. If everyone did that then there would be few new drugs but because drug companies can still charge more in America, everyone gets new drugs. We are in effect providing a subsidy to the rest of the world.
