I might agree with you that moral value may be attached to truth if we state it for instance as, "it is often or usually beneficial to tell the truth". But I would not merely say "truth is good" even though I know it generally to be so, no more than I would say that animals taste good or have hair even though they generally do. I am not arguing against the premise that some truth (or most, if one prefers) is beneficial and conducive to socialization, I am merely pointing out that ALL truth is not beneficial and that a liar should not be prejudged as immoral or bad independent of an assessment of his motive and his intention to honour or dishonour a value.

Additionally I pointed out that lawyers in court shade and steer the truth all the time and this is not generally considered anti-social because it is a specialized subset of the larger society and is somewhat different than two kids going on a date.

Again, I agree that the bar is high because a high bar apparently serves our nature as human beings especially within particular homogenised communities.
