What's needed, is a Federation of English-Speaking Democracies, made up of:
USA UK Canada (minus Quebec?) Australia New Zealand Singapore
Other nations could apply for membership, and be admitted if they are more-or-less English-speaking liberal democracies.
The Constitution of the FESD would clearly say, with no loopholes:
1. the armed forces will be volunteer. 2. all wars will be financed pay-as-you-go 3. Wars, or deficit financing of anything, can only happen by a 2/3 vote of the people. 4. Universal net access, and voting online, will replace representative democracy with direct democracy. All important decisions will be submitted to the direct vote of the people. 5. The day-to-day running of the government will be carried out by an administrative caste, who take life-long vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience (to the people's will, and the Constitution).
The FESD, and the EU, would serve as islands of peace and prosperity, in a world of chaos and violence, and eventually the rest of the world would emulate these two examples. |
