Think of the United States but where the states have more power and autonomy. That's how I envision a world gov't.

That sounds like a good idea.

I think the federal government would have to have far less power to tax and spend. The reason is that the United States considers itself a nation, that we are all in this together. Once you have real nations involved, with money constantly flowing to a completely different nation, it would quickly fall apart.

I can tell you about one of the smallest federal country involving only 2 nationalities, that are exteremely similar, understand each other's language, even shared part of their history, and it still fell apart. Of course I am talking about Czechoslovakia.

It may happen with EU, if the bureaucrats get their way of usurping the power of the member states, increase their budgets, add very big dissimilar (=poor) countries (Poland, Rumania, possibly Ukraine, Belorussia, Turkey, or Russia itself.
