Yep, it'll be interesting to see how that line of research progresses. That the steel met or exceeded design specs is not surprising. Typical engineering of that kind of structure is to design for a huge margin of error, for the most extreme case, then beef it up.

A lot of expert opinions seem to change as soon as they go public, so it'll be interesting to see if this particular project goes forward in a straight line, or if there is a sudden about face and another dead end investigation.
