Court dismisses lawsuits filed against Duke Energy LOS ANGELES, Aug 29 - Duke Energy Corp. said on Friday that seven class action lawsuits filed against the power company were dismissed earlier this week. The lawsuits, filed in federal court in San Diego, alleged the company had artificially restricted power supplies and manipulated the market, forcing the state of California and its consumers to pay excessive prices for electricity. Judge Robert Whaley dismissed them partly on jurisdictional grounds. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission hold jurisdiction over setting wholesale electricity rates. FERC cleared Duke Energy of intentionally withholding power generated by its California plants from the market during the state's 2000-2001 energy crisis earlier this month.
