Regarding the figure on lightning strikes, here's what my original post on the subject stated:

Lightning starts about 15 percent of wildfires, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.

People start the rest.

I dispute the 15% figure for lightening caused fires. East of the Cascades and west of Denver, lightening causes at least 2/3 of all fires.

The Forest Services "Smokey the Bear" campaign about "only you can prevent forest fires" is one of the longest running examples of government disinformation that I know of. :)
