Mq, Re: The USA didn't become strong because of tariffs. No, just the U.S. manufacturing base. Overall, the U.S. prospered because of the ruthless exploitation of one of the greatest natural resource bases in the world. Though largely spent, if one looks at petroleum and natural gas reserves, depletion of soils, loss of local fisheries, 98% deforestation on timberlands, etc. there is still some hope for the national economy. Though for the worker bees in the U.S., 1973 was as good as it will ever get. It's all downhill now for the workers.
