<Bush's plan> Bush does not plan anything. He signed on to a scheme hatched by other people many, many years ago. It was a truly stupid scheme -- to call it a plan is to suggest that is is well-thought-out which it is not. We were going to roll into Iraq and be greeted as "liberators" by cheering crowds and people flying kites. Then we were to install a government made up up Iraqi exiles who were pushing this invasion from the safety of their Washington offices. By now, our troops would be down to a small force and Iraq was to be the shining example of how easy it is to liberate and stabilize an Arab country. They thought it would be so easy that they did not even need a plan for after the war -- everything was just going to take care of itself. Their only concern was to protect the oil fields -- that was job one. The looting and the rampage of violence of all kinds around the country was not "our problem" -- it was just a sign that people were now "free". We are witnessing a country going through its own personal descent into hell -- they did not have far to go. They thought the US would at least have a plan to stabilize the country. They thought wrong. What the terrorists have wanted for so long is a reason -- a spark -- to ignite an explosion of violence throughout the region. The US invasion of Iraq was the best thing we could have done -- the best thing if our goal was to provide the spark that the terrorists were praying for. We answered their prayers. Doing it unilaterally was icing on the cake.
