Mr. Mark,

Thanks for the response. I've installed ZA Pro V.4 (still trying to figure out whether to allow persistent cookies plus the assorted other options... would love to see how others have configured their ZA Pro V4... ad blocker, etc. work great and, yes, I left the e-mail scan active together with NAV 2003 autoprotect e-mail in and out scan and, so far no problems), BoClean, AdAware (free version), Spyware Blaster, Spyware Guard, Trojan Hunter and RegCleaner Ver 4.3, build 780. RegCleaner still scares me. I'm running WIN 2000 Pro with all critical updates and patches installed. I set RegCleaner on manual and the help screen says to click on delete next to the exit button at the bottom right of the page, but their is no exit or delete button anywhere on the page!! Actually, after doing a scan, I have to close the program and reopen it to do another type of scan. (edit: just found it... had to "autohide" taskbar... and there it was!) I could probably put it on automatic with backup and it would work, but would probably give me heart failure until I rebooted and saw everything was working OK. A lot of registry entries and programs show up that I never heard of and some were modified just a few days ago, but some of the entries point to programs I do have. If it doesn't reboot, can I use "boot with last good configuration" and then restore from Regcleaner's backup files... if I can get there? I bought a copy of Roxio's GoBack 3 Deluxe, but never installed it. Any experience with it or suggestions about using RegCleaner? GoBack seems to produce restore points as in ME and XP.

I also installed MailWasher Pro V. 3.1 and find it works quite well. The spam was getting to be too much and I like that it can bounce the spam right back as if my address didn't exist. I have no interest in the company, but check it out at firetrust.com and see what you think. I have a shortcut on my desktop and then keep it minimized in the right taskbar and it is set to check my e-mail addresses in the background every minute and rings a bell when a new e-mail arrives. I can then delete, bounce and/or blacklist any e-mail. It then takes me to Outlook Express. We'll see if it reduces the garbage!

Thanks once again, Mr. Mark and all those others who gave their opinions. Still going to install Spybot, but enough for a few days!! If anyone has any suggestions on configuring any of the programs... especially ZAP... it would be much appreciated. This is one great thread.

Best always,

Marty

P.S.: The SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster download sites are down and there are new updates, but the help forum says they will be back up by tomorrow.

P.P.S.: Anyone know what Sonic Update Manager is for? It keeps trying to access my computer. I did a Google search, but couldn't really find anything except for a mention of BackUpMyPC which I use with my DAT tape backup. RegCleaner shows it in my startup programs.
