Actually, it is 612 HP

... and 40 kilos (88 lbs) lighter than the [former] greatest sports automobile in the world, (as in the fastest street Porsche ever produced by Zuffenhausen) the 911 GT2. So, we have: 3,175 - 88 = 3,087 lbs)

Translation: an even more awesome acceleration than the GT2 i.e. 0 to 60 (mph) in 3.6 secs. for the GT2.

The factory is more conservative in their test results, however Road and Track (the magazine) has always proven to be more aggressive in their findings. Unfortunately, at this time R&T has not yet performed their testing on the Carrera GT, (as far as I know)... Porsche says the Carrera GT clocks 0 - 60 at 3.9 secs... still awesome... -g

Another big difference from the 911 is that the motor in the Carrera is not turbo-charged. It is a V-10 normally aspirated engine yielding a sound more in line with the Ferrari "Enzo" (the car), not to mention its incredible power and continuous "push" even in 6th gear.
