I don't blame anyone living in Iraq these days for being ambiguous about the facts of their existence. Salam Pax was extremely cautious during the regime and afterwards for a while.

He "outed" himself at about the same time as the Guardian started publishing his weekly column - actually if I recall correctly a NY Times author wrote an article about the Guardian blogger being his translator when he was in Iraq - and we still don't know his real name, although it's known to the US administration, according to things he's posted.

I would assume that he's passed on Riverbend's bona fides.

Unless the New York Times and the Guardian are being hoaxed, Salam Pax is who he says he is, and from that I assume that Riverbend is who she says she is.
