The need to be open diminishes as one deals with impersonal relationships. There is, though, a continued need of elementary trust and credibility, such that it is still best to be honest, even in government, and, in fact, people are assessed on that basis. Clinton was perceived by most politicians as being unusual in the unreliability of his word, and despised for it, even by some who supported him for partisan reasons.
