China's mobile comms industry poised for growth in '03
Posted : 01 Sep 2003
According to the second annual industry report from EE Times-China and EBN-China - Electronics Industry Outlook: China - sales of electronic information products in 2003 will rise by 17 percent to RmB1.64 trillion.
China has become the world's largest production base of communication products like mobile phones, switches and telecommunication devices. The outlook revealed that the communication devices market in China maintained a strong growth in 2002, even during the downturn in the global communication industry. Mobile phones, and related telecommunication devices are seen to remain the key drivers for the communication market in 2003 through 2005.

This is backed by statistics from China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII). According to MII, the number of mobile phone users in China has exceeded 235 million, and is expected to surpass fixed-line users by the end of this year. China's mobile communication industry is seen to become one of the main drivers for the information industry in China.

As for the PC industry, Global Sources Electronic Components reports that shipments of notebook PCs from the mainland has reportedly increased by 164 percent. This growth was mainly because of the migration of production of major manufacturers in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan to mainland China.
