you're welcome.
at one time i was running three software firewalls simultaneously...
partly because i was convinced that one would pick up where the others might leave off
and partly because i just wanted to see if i could get them all to behave together on the same operating system
i ran blackice defender, norton personal firewall and zonealarm
then i said adios to two of them, keeping zonealarm, and got a linksyss BEFSR41 router. i really liked npf, but it was way slowing down my cable modem upload, for some reason.
since those early days of thinking more is better insofar as firewalls go, i have come to understand that a properly configured, quality firewall will do its best work when allowed to be the only one.
one reason i like zonealarm so much is, as i have explained on this thread a few times already, it is designed to fail in the off position... meaning that when the worm or trojan that finds its way onto my system begins to attack my firewall, the firewall will lock down all additional attempts to access the internet. in other words, if something tries to turn zonealarm off, it will stop everything until i tell it to proceed. and i have password protected that capability as well, so that it can not receive a programmed authorization from the trojan server or the worm.
it would be interesting to see what blocks symantec has put in place along these lines |
