I am still not impressed with the selection or cost of HDTV sets in the stores, but the industry is moving.
From the NAB:
Today, there are 1004 DTV stations in 201 Markets that include 99.17% of U.S. TV Households. Eighty percent of U.S. TV households are in markets with five or more broadcasters airing DTV, and 52% are in markets with eight or more broadcasters sending digital signals.

HDTV, or "high-definition television," is the highest quality Digital TV available, offering more than five times the sharpness of today's television, along with CD-quality digital surround sound capability. Because HDTV has twice the vertical and horizontal resolution of analog, the picture quality approaches that of motion picture films.

Consumers can choose from hundreds of Digital TV products that are on the market today. Some Digital TV sets have the digital decoding and tuning functions built into the TV - an integrated, one product solution. Others are a two-part system of a digital monitor plus a tuner in a separate set-top decoder box.

More than 1.4 million Digital TV products (integrated sets and displays) were sold last year alone. CEA projects that 2.1 million Digital TV products will be sold this year, 4 million will be sold in 2003, 5.4 million will be sold in 2004, 8 million will be sold in 2005 and 10.5 million will be sold in 2006.
