Feature-Rich Vibratto Chip from ESS Enables State-of-the-Art DVD Player

FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ESS Technology (Nasdaq: ESST - News), a leading provider of silicon solutions for digital imaging, digital video and digital audio consumer electronics, today announced that JVC has selected ESS's Vibratto(TM) DVD decoder chip to power its newest DVD player, the XV-NP1SL. This latest DVD offering from JVC comes in a sleek, slim chassis and includes slot accesses for the viewing of digital photos using DSC memory cards. The JVC XV-NP1SL DVD player is currently available in the European and North American markets; in Japan, the JVC DVD player is sold under the model number XV-PZ55.

The ESS Vibratto product line incorporates the latest MPEG-2 video decoding technologies and digital audio decoding technologies to provide the JVC XV-NP1SL DVD player with progressive scan video output for flicker-free display, Dolby® Digital and DTS(TM) decoding for high quality audio output, and S/PDIF output for digital audio pass-through. In addition, the Vibratto DVD decoder provides a direct interface for SD, MMC, SmartMedia, Compact Flash, and Memory Stick flash memory cards. This flash memory interface offers consumers the capability to view photos stored on memory cards, or to play an enhanced Music Slideshow(TM) directly on a TV set. The Music Slideshow(TM) is a unique feature that allows music to play in the background from a CDDA disc or from MP3/WMA files stored in a memory card while a customizable slide show of photos is displayed on the TV screen. The JVC XV-NP1SL DVD player also offers a unique state-of-the-art 1.5x quick video playback with audio and JVC's exclusive Express Play Start feature that displays video images a mere four seconds after a disc is inserted.

"The ESS Vibratto chip is a perfect match for our XV-NP1SL DVD player, where customers' demands can be met with one single player for both DVD movie playback and memory card content viewing. With the enhanced music slide-show feature, we are introducing a new entertainment capability to the DVD player for the growing population of DSC users," stated Shingo Kawata, executive vice president, AV & Multimedia Company, JVC. "JVC is delighted to have ESS as a partner to help us deliver a user-friendly player."

Victor Ren, vice president of marketing for ESS Technology stated, "We are proud to have helped JVC develop this state-of-the-art DVD player and turn the XV-NP1SL concept into reality. ESS's Vibratto chip's rich features enable this new product to add capabilities not previously possible, providing JVC's customers with a DVD player that offers both high-quality DVD playback as well as the display of high-resolution JPEG photos. Once again, ESS has shown our commitment to adding new features to our Vibratto DVD chips to enhance consumers' user experience."
