i think, but am by no means sure, that the commercials are the proprietary trading desks of the big Wall St firms, and may also include large hedge funds (large speculators in commodities data) for the financial futures. that was the vague impression i have, and seems to be what CI was talking about in this focus piece on COT ("COT Redhanded") from 5 weeks ago: contraryinvestor.com in this report CI was already suggesting back in late July that the large commercial short position could fuel the flames of this rally. of course the short position has only gotten larger in the interim. please let me know if you get a better definition.
