Osama being cornered: Faisal

ISLAMABAD: The hunt for Osama Bin Laden is moving closer towards its target, Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat said on Wednesday.

The minister said Mr Bin Laden’s whereabouts were still unknown but his Al Qaeda network had been weakened with the help of “vital information” gleaned from his key aides arrested in recent months.

“As a result, slowly and gradually, the noose is tightening around Osama and his aides,” APP quoted him as saying in Islamabad at a ceremony for the inauguration of Sawan bridge. “To me, time, space and options are becoming limited by the day for Osama and all those linked to him.”

Mr Bin Laden’s whereabouts have been a mystery since he fled Afghanistan late in 2001, but some speculate he is hiding in the tribal areas at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. But Mr Hayat demanded proof for that. “Those who say that he is in Pakistan should come out with solid proof and we will take action,” he said. He said an investigation into four detained army officers with alleged links to key Al Qaeda leaders was underway.
