TAIPEI, Sept 5 (Reuters) - TSMC (Taiwan:2330.TW - News), the world's largest contract microchip maker, said on Friday third-quarter shipments were likely to be up nearly 10 percent from the April-June period, exceeding earlier forecasts. ADVERTISEMENT Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) (NYSE:TSM - News) also expects fourth-quarter business to match that of the third quarter, said public affairs manager Jesse Chou.
Chou, who was confirming comments at a New York tech conference by a TSMC investor relations official, did not give reasons for the upbeat outlook.
TSMC had said in July it expected third-quarter shipments to grow five to nine percent from the second quarter, slowing down from a surge in the April-June period.
Market research firm Gartner Dataquest expects global semiconductor revenues to rise 6.7 percent quarter-on-quarter in the July-September period, followed by 4.1 percent growth in the fourth quarter.
By 0308 GMT, TSMC shares were up T$2.00, or 3.03 percent, at T$68.00, outperforming a 0.43 percent rise in the TAIEX (Taiwan:^TWII - News) share index. |
