TSMC Upgrades 3Q Wafer Shipment Outlook To 10% On-Qtr Growth
Thursday September 4, 11:56 pm ET

TAIPEI -(Dow Jones)- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Friday said it had raised its third-quarter wafer shipment outlook, and offered its first comments on how the fourth quarter appears to be shaping up.
The world's largest foundry chipmaker said it sees wafer shipments in the July-September period up 10% compared with the second quarter.

The figure is slightly better than the one given in statements it made during its second-quarter investors' conference, when it called for a mid-to-high single digit percentage point gain.

The company also said wafer shipments in the fourth quarter should be no worse than in the third, the first comments it has made regarding the October-December period.

The statements were made by the company's deputy director of investor relations, Elizabeth Sun, at a technology conference in New York and confirmed Friday by the Taipei-based manager of TSMC's public relations department, Jesse Chou.

Further details of comments made during the investor conference weren't immediately available, TSMC said.
