Do you know if they have something similar to Q’s Zero If design and “single” chipset solution? And, if they have had successful GSM-WCDMA (UMTS) handovers in field trials in operators’ networks in Asia, Europe and North America as Qualcomm has stated with their MSM6200 in their presentations?

I have never seen any details on NEC's solution.

The Motorola chipset is supposed to be an early version of the i.300 platform. The eventual i.300 includes a direct conversion receiver (Zero-IF), but I dont know weather Motorola's current version of the chipset includes that (I have my doubts).

TI will also be shipping a direct conversion W-CDMA chipset in the first half of next year.

It seems to me that Qualcomm might be ahead with their ZIF solution but it is tough to tell by how much.

With regards to the GSM-WCDMA handover press release....I would need to hear about some actual customers managing the handover before I could judge the progress that Qualcomm has made. Just about all of the major players have announced something similair but the devil is in the details. Note that they said that they used a test handset and not one of the commercial handsets based on the MSM6200 (V801SA, Samsung Z100). Also, the real trick is performing the handoff between infrastructure from different manufacturers.

Supposedly if the handover was really working in commercial conditions, Vodafone would be willing to launch their W-CDMA network. Since Qualcomm still doesnt see volumes until '05, I have my doubts about the performance of the handoff outside of the lab/field trials.
