hi mike

"i am trialing the trojan hunter program which i downloaded yesterday"

excellent idea. how do you find the program so far?

"what does th do that zone alarm and nav don't do?

"am i correct in assuming that nav won't find worms and th will?"

no. NAV finds worms, trojans and viruses, even though it is primarily an antivirus tool.

i don't know if TH finds worms. it probably does, but as the name implies, its main focus is hunting for trojans.

i read recently that most internet threats no longer are viruses, but instead are worms and trojans.

i think it's best and fair to say that we are seeing many more blended threats... whereby a worm, for instance, delivers a trojan server (msblaster).

in the strictest sense, i believe that the term blended threat denotes the evolving method of propagation, but i like to use the phrase to illustrate the way threats are coming in all combinations and in all manner of delivery.

it is, IMO, virtually impossible to identify one program, be it an AV or an AT, as the best defense money can buy. TH has strengths over NAV and Kaspersky has strengths over BOClean and on and on and on...

i find myself time and again acknowledging the merits of the layered approach to pc security... and repeating the adage, Security is NOT a product, just a process.
