I'm not running 98 anymore but I'll at least try to get you started troubleshooting. Go to start/run and type (without quotes) "hwinfo /ui" and hit enter. You can sort the info by devices with problems somewhere up top from the drop down menus. Let us know if you have anything in red. Also check here.

I won't be able to help any until much later today but please report any findings and I or some of the other thread "members" will give you our thoughts.

You also might go to pcpitstop.com and run their tests.

Have you run scandisk and defragged lately?
