That's true for more expensive items like laptops. For PDAs and other cheaper devices the manufacturers will include slots that people populate as needed. Keeps cost down and reduces obsolescence of items that would otherwise need to be built in. Like in digital cameras where manufacturers avoid building in flash memory but prefer to provide a slot and a minimal size flash card.
