Every time I read a story like this one

washingtonpost.com

I have two questions.

1. How could a prosecutor have persuaded the jury to convict a man, not once but twice, and persuade them once to send him to death row, when in reality he had nothing to do with the crime?

2. How does the prosecutor in a case like this continue to do his job, knowing that he is responsible for an innocent person spending years in prison and almost being killed? I don't think I could sleep at night and get up in the morning and keep doing that.
