"how long has the freezing been occurring, btw" in the past 2 weeks, the freezing seems to have esclated. but, it has always froze once in a while. "and i'm sure you're aware that win98 is notorious for that sort of behavior. it may not be any consolation, but the fact that it has a widely known reputation as an unstable operating system at least points to the futility of trying to make it run smoothly. yes, that has occured to me more than once. do you have a recommendation for another operating system? i typically surf the net and use my machine for financial purposes (and graphs/streaming quotes, etc).
