In my opinion, the US is far weaker than the Americans, themselves, realize. Yes, they can drop bombs and such-like but the US clearly doesn't have either the stamina or enthusiasm for a long, unpleasant conflict especially in the circumstance of a poor economy and the enormous, rising and already unpayable national debt.
The truth is that since WW2 the US has done pretty poorly at wars but they don't seem to realize this. It's almost as if they believe their own Hollywood movies especially the ones with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwartzenegger who took on the whole world single handed --- and won. In fact, the irony is that the US has so much to offer that they didn't need wars at all to achieve power, influence and friends in the world.
Unfortunately, whether because of arrogance, hubris, greed, lack of insight or just pure dishonesty, or all of this, the administration doesn't seem to recognize the urgency of getting out of Iraq. Without doubt, the longer the US stays there the more its economy will suffer and with that there will be a fall in national confidence and prestige. In fact, the blunder of Iraq could be a transforming circumstance in US history.
Already, because of this administration, the US has lost considerable respect and standing amongst the various nations of the world but the Americans seem to laugh this off as if it doesn't matter and believe the rest of the world is wrong.
