Dan, @Home does have near unique technology through its use of cable. Because of the heavy investment required for infrastructure, it is a major entry barrier. @home through its relationships with several major cable companies is able to benefit from cable without the heavy infrastructure investment. TCI, Comcast, Cox, Rogers etc own part of @home and have relationships with it. A unique feature that @home brings is its network architecture which provides additional bandwidth, through parallel ties to the internet, and through the use of local servers to avoid going back to the net for information that has already been requested locally.
