well, i appreciate all the help. i thought the "freezing" up problem was solved. until i turned the puter on this morning. it froze on me.

i think i'll change operating systems (i've had this thought for sometime now). i can get the full version windows xp pro for about half retail price on ebay, still sealed in box. the OEM version is considerable lower.
