Hi Sig; Re: "Poor planning, and not a good idea."

Cool that you can moralize (or wish-think) the situation to the point where you are able to fully blame the victim and exonerate the people who killed her.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bush starts claiming that the whole war was caused because Iraq walked down the street wearing a too short skirt, and that even though her mouth said "no, no", her eyes said "yes, yes".

The problem is that the Iraqi people are nowhere near as advanced as you are at rationalizing away the murders of their friends and relatives. That's why they're shooting back.

Re: "Will lead to very predictable and nasty results when a war is in progress."

That's right. The very predictable and nasty result is that Farah's friends and relatives will hate us, shoot at us, and provide aid and comfort to other forces that are against us. They've owned guns for hundreds of years and they didn't have a problem with people busting down their doors and killing them until just recently, when we arrived. They will continue shooting at us until we leave.

Re: "Keep guns unloaded and out of the reach of children."

Who do you think threw the grenade at Farah? An old guy with a beard??? A substantial percentage of our soldiers in Iraq are teenagers. That's right, your government sent teenagers with guns to patrol hostile neighborhoods in a land that they don't have the slightest idea what is going on in because they don't speak the language.

What's sad is that our military does include units that do not allow teenagers to carry fully automatic weapons and hand grenades. They're called the Special Forces, and they don't (usually) make the mistakes that the 4th ID made in the above incident.

But Iraq is a huge place and we don't have enough special forces to keep the place under control. Nor can we possibly teach those teenagers enough about fire control to stop them from spraying machine gun fire randomly into the night.
