Talbott wrote that late last year, before deflation fears were heavily telegraphed by the Fed and they promised to do everything to fight it. the Bernanke Put wasn't formally announced till January of 2003 or so, and i believe Talbott put this book to bed around Oct 2002. so he might be a bit dismissive of that deflation scenario if he were asked today, but who knows.

it is probably worth googling around for some papers by him and that Leamer dude (he mentioned they were going to publish something). i don't have time right now, though.

btw, Talbott's book gained mention in the latest issue of Grant's, which is why i picked it up.
