What are you going to apply pressure with?

Listen.. if you live in a drug-infested neighborhood, and all of a sudden a cop busts one of the local crack houses and then turns it into a police "sub-station", don't you think the local hoodlums are going to be watching how they act?

And doesn't such a long-term police presence provide hope to those folks living there who have been oppressed by these gangs.. Sufficient hope that they become interested in actively opposing their gangs?

My friend. We are spending money rebuilding a nation which has been abandoned by those nations who previously supported Saddam. Don't think for a second that this fact is going unnoticed by your average Iraqi. When conditions improve and survival turns to reflection, they will acknowledge that the US/UK were the only ones who cared enough to care about their well-being (even if almost negligent about planning for such reconstruction).

And pumping oil too, keeping prices low so all the Bush tax cut winners had plenty of cheap fuel to run their SUV's and power boats.

Do you have a problem with cheap oil? After all, every economy on earth practically depends upon it.

And the Iraqis certainly don't mind having a guaranteed buyer for their oil, so long as the proceeds are spent on their welfare.
