Forget the reporters, I just received a first hand account from an Infantry Platoon Sergeant with B Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division.
I'll take these reports over any reporter.
This unit has been conducting combat patrols all night, every night in and around Baghdad and Tikrit (the hot areas). Both in reaction to Intell and to support SpecOps.
This Sergeant reports today that rocket attacks against their personnel have greatly diminished in the past week. He credits this to some previous very aggressive operations against armed enemy in their area. They have killed or captured hundreds of their attackers and captured boatloads of ammo and explosives.
Our Special Forces Assn Chapter got together today to purchase and ship enough gloves, bats and balls to outfit a team. A large box is headed to B Company.
Here are some of the other activities the unit has been engaged in... hood.army.mil
BTW the 4th ID has a terrific history from WWI, WWII and Nam. They were the first allied unit to land at Normandy...hitting Utah Beach and securing all Division objectives in approx 30 days. They were well known in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Operating in the Pleiku, Kontum, Dak To areas.
Once upon a time 34 and 1/2 years ago, I was medevaced from the Laotian border to a 4th ID, Bn aid station at LZ MaryLou outside Kontum. After a quick look, the Doc told me I would be getting on another bird to the Field Hospital in Pleiku...I asked him why...He answered, "Because you are wounded." I said, "No shit." He said, "No shit." uw |
