France did not cause the break in our alliance. Bush started it by backing out of Kyoto and the nuclear arms treaty with the Russians right after he took office, then rammed SDI down Europe's throat and treated them with great arrogance as if they didn't matter. Later, he called the UN irrelevant and suggested they were appeasers and weak and spineless. He then let his people organize boycotts of French and German goods. All of this when after 9-11, those countries would have done anything for us. Bush squandered the greatest goodwill America has ever been offered, all for his obsession with Saddam and his oil.
