That isn't a reversal of TR

He said,

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

Such an announcement is being made by Rumsfeld, and parroted up and down the line. When he says, like Ashcroft did earlier, "criticism helps the terrorists", he is saying "my President right or wrong". Regardless of artful reasoning that is for monarchs and dictators not Democracies and they should apologize.

As TR clearly explains to those who may be smitten with overweaning sense of entitlement to the fruits of administration policy, this is unpatriotic and servile as well.

Harsh words from a very literary and thoughtful statesman.
