Absolutely. But my definition of biP fp is that a common view is defined. Perhaps in that case iraq wouldnt have been attacked or it would be more the pollack model than necocon and that State would have a greater role or we would need international support. This hatred between the two sides is so great that these opps were lost to political calculations on both sides.
But if we view today as Day 1, bush has taken imo a giant step toward a more centrist position without admitting guilt. Dems could find a comfortable spot there too but some candidates may balk because it interferes with their presidential aspirations. And some republicans like cheney and rummy may balk too because compromise is not what they are looking for. Mike
