I've tried to pull in on the reins a bit on this thread because personal attacks seem to be the norm among certain people here and personal attacks are against the site's rules, and their being so commonplace here is an embarassment to me and the community as a whole.
I'm releasing those reins. Have at it.
Those who can't "fight" as grownups in this thread are just so numerous and prolific that it's nearly a fulltime job just trying to keep up, which I deeply resent because this is a non-market thread on a market-specific site, and my involvement with this thread has seriously impeded my progress in more important aspects of my job.
Personal attacks, such as calling each other pinheads, morons, etc will be treated as non-violations from this point forward in this thread, but other violations such as vulgarity, threats, and invasion of privacy will be dealt with much more severely.
While releasing the reins, I do have this to say, though. Those of you who can't disagree with someone without resorting to personal attacks should grow up!
For those of you who don't want to have to deal with that immature conduct, feel free to start a new thread if you like, put in the header that personal attacks won't be allowed, and I'll enforce it.
I doubt that'll happen, though. I suspect that most people in that category have simply been making use of the Ignore feature.
Most of the complaints I get about this thread aren't from civil participants who just don't want to wade through the crap. Most are from people who themselves engage in these personal attacks and, in the same way they resort to name-calling as if it strengthens their argument (when most mature people see the opposite as true), try to use me as another way to "defeat" their opponents.
Oh, and one last thing. I'm as apolitical as they come and people who tell me I've suspended them because of my political beliefs are awfully amusing to me.
All current suspensions for conduct in this thread will run their course, including a 2-week one I handed out yesterday.
And anyone who sends in a complaint to me about someone else's personal attacks when they themselves have been engaging in the same (on any level), will find themselves suspended.
Edit: This isn't a slam against the whole thread, by a long shot. 95% of my Admin workload is the fault of only about 5 or 6 people in this thread. That's going to stop. |
