Well, Mike, I'm certainly not fixated on Vietnam. Never mention it. Just wished to state a different point of view on it. As for Bush, I simply think we've all suffered a great deal of misery from this 00 to 04 wrong turn. Perhaps it will end there. Who knows.

As for middle grounds, I don't think there are any right now. This administration has been remarkably uninterested in any such. It's "our way or the highway." Which is definitely not a position in search of genuine partners.

The closest on foreign policy is the tek, Pollack, et al, position which is that we went into Iraq for the wrong reasons with piss poor diplomacy with no planning for post invasion Iraq but it was the right thing to do because Saddam destabilized the ME and was a terrible dictator. I don't think any other middle ground exists. And I don't see the Bush administration reaching to that middle ground. It's not my position.

As for the rest, I read your post carefully, because, while rambling like all of our posts, it looked as if you had thought about the issues. And it certainly was not a personal attack.
