Did anyone see Charlie Rose last night? Zakaria was the guest host, Nye was a guest, as well as a couple of other luminaries including a leftie professor from Columbia wearing a very bad toupee and Jeffrey (?) Sachs from the Council on Foreign Relations.

I caught part of it on rerun. "Leftie professor", say what? That was Max Boot, no lefty. Jeff Sachs was moaning about all the worthy causes that wouldn't get funded because of Iraq (he sure looked like someone whose pet project had just been canned). The others, who also included some Indian guy named Sashi (?) who was a UN honcho, told him it was no use moaning, we were in Iraq and had to deal with it. There were the usual arguments about tactics in Iraq, needing to turn over police functions to Iraqis ASAP, the usual Vietnam comparisons, mostly specious, and calls for using NATO and the UN for cover/"legitimacy". Max Boot said a Shi'ite in Iraq asked him, "The UN was opposed to our liberation. Why should we be happy to see them?" A very reasonable question imo, one that never occurs to the chorus of UN=legitimacy faithful. The Iraqis have seen the business end of the UN, and it mostly sucks.
