But what I felt X was advocating was that we don't allow the nature of the way we live as a nation to change. Rambi.. I saw the aftermath of the Pentagon attack. I personally know people who were there when the attack occurred. They all continue to stare upward whenever one of those "puddle jumpers" flies overhead going in and out of Reagan National Airport. Life has forever been altered for them. And the way the US "does business" has also been changed for the foreseeable future. The nation has created a Department of Homeland Defence, the largest of all agencies outside of DOD. And yet, every democrat around haranguing the Bush administration for apparently not spending as much as they believe should be spent for that purpose. We have to change while we fight this war against Islamic militancy, if only to preserve what we have already achieved. We have to be conscious that there are some very bad people out there who would like nothing more than to destroy this nation, even if they sacrifice their lives to do so. But I would rather do it overseas, rather than turn this country into "Fortress Amerika". The American strategy for conducting war over the past century has been to fight them on foreign territory, rather than waiting until the war laps up upon our shores. And if you're concerned about not "changing" this country, ask your parents, or grandparents, just how tight and restrictive security was in the US during WWII.. Ask them if there wasn't a level of suspicioun cast upon anyone who didn't seem to fit... Ask them if people weren't constantly reminded to watch for anything out of the ordinary.. And then remember how that security consciousness was overblown to the extent that Niesei were interned and their property confiscated, while German and Italian-Americans were essentially left alone.. So we have seen FAR WORSE levels of restrictiveness in our country in past years. And I think, if anything, we need to see it today so people don't stop forgetting we're at war. Hawk
